What is the role of an alternator in cars ?
The alternator is a device that creates electricity that powers a car's electrical system as well as the car battery. It is driven by the V-belt. A defective alternator can be recognized by the fact that the charge control lamp in the dashboard remains lit even when the engine is working. Another sign of a defect in the alternator is that the battery discharges very quickly despite the engine being switched on. General malfunctions can include broken housing, worn carbon brushes, breakdowns in the winding or total seizure.
