The engine oil required for lubrication is in the oil sump pan. This component is screwed to the engine block below the crankshaft. The oil is sucked in from the oil pan with the help of an oil pump and pumped through the oil filter into the oil ducts of the engine block. In the past, oil pans were mainly made of steel, now aluminum is used more often for production. Aluminum has many advantages that are very important in today's automotive industry. Firstly, it conducts heat particularly well and thus lowers the oil temperature. Second, it is completely insensitive to corrosion and can be easily sealed.
